Craftsmanship
Flat walls, straight corners and ceilings that stay quiet under raking light. Finishing is where drywall is won or lost, and it's in our name for a reason.
The Koelker Family
For the Koelker family, drywall has never just been a business. It is the trade they've built their lives around—and today that experience is being carried into a second generation.

Our Story
Rod learned the trade in Iowa, starting out on modular homes before working with several contractors and eventually going out on his own. For years, he ran an established drywall business in Cedar Rapids, Iowa — long before H&K carried the family name.
When Hurricane Katrina struck, Rod brought that experience south to help rebuild homes in Mississippi and around New Orleans. From there came years of residential construction, commercial work, remodels, multi-family projects and disaster restoration following major storms across the Gulf Coast, Texas, North Carolina and Iowa.
That experience taught Rod how to handle far more than straightforward new construction. He has worked through water damage, insurance repairs, storm restoration, unusual construction conditions and the countless problems that only reveal themselves once a project is opened up. When something unfamiliar comes up, his approach has always been the same: find the right answer and get the job done properly.
And through all of it, Spencer and Sterling were growing up alongside the business. They started around jobsites as kids, spent summers working with their dad, and eventually joined him on the road full time. Today, H&K isn't simply a company with decades of experience—it's a second-generation family trade business built on knowledge passed down job by job.
After years of traveling, the family eventually chose to put down roots closer to home and bring that experience to customers throughout Northern Wisconsin and the Western Upper Peninsula.
Then & Now
Spencer and Sterling grew up around drywall. What began as tagging along to jobsites and helping with simple tasks eventually became years of learning the trade directly from their dad. Today, they help carry the same craftsmanship and work ethic into the next generation of H&K.

“Treat every house like it's your own.”
That standard has guided H&K for decades. It means doing the work correctly, respecting the homeowner, solving problems instead of avoiding them, protecting the home throughout the project and making every effort to leave the space clean when the work is finished.

You'll know where the project stands and hear about issues when they come up, not after they've cost you time — homeowner, builder or construction manager.
We plan the crew, the material and the schedule so we can do what we said we'd do. In rural country where trades are spread thin, that matters.
The Region
Serving the U.P. and the Northwoods means long drives, short building seasons, and sites that aren't always easy to get material to. We plan for it, working in longer continuous stretches on distant projects rather than short daily trips.
We quote projects of all sizes — new construction, remodels, single rooms and commercial work — and every one gets the same standard of finish.
